Pinalawig ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang pansamantalang modipikasyon sa rates ng import duty sa bigas, mais at produktong karne hanggang Disyembre 2024.
Ito ay upang matiyak ang abot-kayang presyo ng mga bilihin sa gitna ng nagbabantang epekto ng El Niño phenomenon at African Swine Fever.
Nakapaloob ito sa Executive Order (EO) No. 50, na nilagdaan ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin noong Disyembre 22.
Sa pagpapalabas ng EO, sinabi ng Pangulo na nabigyan ng katuwiran ng kasalukuyang kondisyon ng ekonomiya ng Pilipinas ang pagpapalawig ng aplikasyon ng pagbabawas sa tariff rates sa bigas, mais at karne ng swine products upang mapanatili ang abot-kayang presyo sa merkado.
“The present economic condition warrants the continued application of the reduced tariff rates on rice, corn, and meat of swine (fresh, chilled or frozen) to maintain affordable prices for the purpose of ensuring food security, managing inflationary pressures, help augment the supply of basic agricultural commodities in the country, and diversify the country’s market sources,” saad ng Pangulo.
Sa ilalim ng Section 1608 ng Republic Act No. 10863, o ang Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, may kapangyarihan ang Pangulo na taasan, bawasan at alisin ang rates ng import duty para sa kapakanan ng sambayanang Pilipino at national security at bilang tugon sa rekomendasyon ng National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).
Inendorso ng NEDA ang ekstensyon ng reduced Most Favored Nation (MFN) tariff rates para sa mga pangunahing bilihin tulad ng bigas, mais at karne hanggang Disyembre 31, 2024.
"The Board endorsed the proposed executive order to extend the reduced Most Favored Nation (MFN) tariff rates on selected commodities covered by Executive Order No.10 series of 2022, including pork corn and rice until December 31, 2024,'' ayon kay NEDA Secretary Arsenio Balisacan.
Inatasan ni Pangulong Marcos ang NEDA Committee on Tariff and Related Matters na magsumite ng kanilang "findings and recommendations" sa semestral at annual review ng tariff rates kabilang ang analysis at monitoring ng subject commodities.
